Starz Media To Distribute Film And TV Content On The Amazon Unbox Video Download Service
Fan favorite anime movies, television programming and feature films from Starz Media’s large content library are available starting today on Amazon Unbox, Amazon’s digital video download service that offers a library of over 10,000 movies, TV shows and other digital content for rent or purchase. Users will be able to download hundreds of Starz titles to their PC or TiVo © digital video recorders through Amazon Unbox on TiVo. The Starz catalogue available on Amazon Unbox includes anime movies from Manga Entertainment such as Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, and Blood: The Last Vampire; classic films The Evil Dead and The Hills Have Eyes; horror/thriller content including the popular ‘Masters of Horror’ series; animated comic superhero movies including Hellboy Animated: Sword of Storms and Stan Lee’s Condor and Mosaic; and TV series “Astro Boy,” “Street Fighter” and ‘Tripping the Rift.’
The distribution agreement with Amazon Unbox is the latest in Starz Media’s steadily increasing embrace of new distribution channels. In the past few months, the production and distribution company - a unit of Starz, LLC which is itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Media — has signed content deals with such services as Azureus’ Vuze service, BitTorrent, Guba, IGN’s Direct2Drive, Netflix and Starz’s own Vongo.
Through these and other pending partnerships, Starz Media is distributing more than 400 films, television episodes and other video productions from its various divisions. With the breadth of content from Starz Media’s various divisions, each of the partners’ services will get a unique combination of titles for electronic sell-through, video-on-demand and subscription video-on-demand.
‘These deals represent our company’s commitment to expansion in the growing digital media world,’ said Marc DeBevoise, Starz Media’s senior vice president, business development and strategy. ‘We’re embracing the opportunities Amazon and our other partners present to reach a broader audience in new ways, while we’re also remaining focused on solid business practices. So we’re very pleased to be in business with these major players.’
‘Amazon and our other partnerships are extremely important to our overall digital media strategy and will allow us to offer our significant library of entertainment content and latest original programming to consumers online and via other digital distribution,’ added Mara Winokur, vice president of digital media and business development, Starz Media. ‘This continues our strategy of reaching consumers with our content whenever and wherever they want to watch it.’
