The New York Anime Festival (NYAF) today announced that anime legends Peter Fernandez and Corinne Orr will participate in the inaugural New York Anime Festival as its first Guests of Honor. Mr. Fernandez and Ms. Orr have lent their talents to hundreds of projects including Castle in the Sky, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Kaidohmaru; however, both are most known for their roles as Speed and Trixie in the iconic classic Speed Racer. Bringing American television audiences the first look at a hot, new animated series from Japan, Anime Network announced today it has licensed The Right Stuf International’s Ninja Nonsense. Targeted for young adults, this racy series follows the mischievous adventures of Shinobu during her days as a young ninja-in-training. Last night acclaimed anime director Shinichi ‘Nabeshin’ Watanabe (Excel Saga, Nerima Daikon Brothers) and ADV Films President John Ledford announced that ADV Films had acquired rights to Watanabe’s new series The Wallflower. The announcement was made during a tribute to the director, which was held before a packed house at Houston’s Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Today ADV Films co-founder Matt Greenfield announced that ADV has acquired exclusive home video and broadcast rights in North America for the anime series Air and the 85-minute Air Movie. Greenfield made the announcement during a panel at Anime Matsuri, South Texas’ largest anime convention. Volume one of the four-disc Air series will hit store shelves August 14, and the Air Movie is slated for release in late 2007. (more…)
