Congratulations to Kevin Caufield! Here’s what he wrote:

“The thing I wanted vengeance on the most would have to have been when my girlfriend cheated on me with my best friend while we were talking about moving in together (one of us would have to move to another country for this too) and then a month after I found out, they ran off with each other (again an inter-country move) and wound up married. It’s about the most hurt thing that has ever occurred to me. This was a few years ago and for a couple months there was talk about Russia or some other country in that area launching missiles at the eastern seaboard… was hoping it would land on them…
Nothing ever came about of it, and I’m over it now. No reason to live in hate :P”

Congratulations to Mark Gottlieb. Check out his story:

“My weirdness defies all odds… As a writer, I couldn’t make up this kind of stuff (which ironically is true because I’m a very mediocre novelist). It started when I was fourteen.
I had a dream. No, not the Martin Luther King variety, nor the regular kind.

It was a crazy dream set very clearly to the song Lightning Crashes, by Live, though at the time, I hadn’t even known its name. In the dream, I saw myself at the funeral of a small boy, who I knew to be the son of my biology teacher, who I had only just met for the first time that day. The dream didn’t pass when I woke up… it just stayed with me and made me think a lot.

So months passed, the dream didn’t. Still, I had resigned the odd dream to being just that. Until a few months later. It was a Friday, and we had a substitute for Biology… the cause? My bio teacher’s son had suddenly died in his sleep with no prior condition to cause it. That day, the student seated next to me had a Live shirt on, and that night… a show called of all things “Strange Luck” ended when a dying man heard the song Lightning Crashes while sitting on an electric chair.

Call it fate, or destiny… but I went to the open funeral on Monday, as did many of the students. My place there seemed pre-determined though.

As odd as it can seem, it didn’t end there.

A year later, nearly to the day, I had a dream of my mother dying of breast cancer. It stayed with me as well, and having never forgotten the horror of the prior dream, and wondering if I could have done something…. I demanded that she, young, and healthy, go to a doctor. She hadn’t for years, but after practically demanding it of her, she went…. and they found the lump.
It was early enough, and she was strong enough that she survived the battle.

I had one more dream the following year…. but that one was for me. It hasn’t come to pass yet… and I’ll not reveal it until it does…. this was a good one though, so hopefully fate will guide me once again.”

Congratulations to Gregory Gawaran. Check out his story:

“My first romance, well, wow, what can I say it’s been two years. Her eyes, like the gentle breeze of the world, healing to the sight, soothing to the touch… memories. Even two years ago I remember it all so well… I thought this was over the net, I wonder, I wonder what could have happened. Little did I know what was to come. I, being my shy self took days, weeks, even months to just start talking to her. Ironically, she was the first to talk to me. “Hey, do you play Starcraft?” Weird, I, myself would have never thought those words would have spawned to an awakening inside myself.

Time progressed, and, well we got close… closer and closer we got as friends, it seems the only thing that could go wrong, is nothing. Nothing could separate us as friends. And things got better… we started to date… talking on the phone more often. Such a sight it was. Even though suppressed by the limitations of the net and the vast land that spread us apart from being in each others grasp… we overcame. Our relationship built to be so strong, that I felt as if I was in heavens court, and she my angel. Speaking on the phone we would talk about our days, speaking to our minds content. Go on for hours upon end, how great those days were.

As more time progressed, like became to care, to care then to love. My eyes, my soul uplifted in this world, I could say for once in my life, “I am… I am in love with this woman… I am in love with Mayzin!” Like a streak of passion that bound my heart and hers together like an unbreakable bond. I smiled as the days passed on… A faithful July, we took a trip to New York … and there, after a year and 4 months, I saw, the woman of my dreams for the first time. To think, such a love spawning from this long distance. I felt relaxed, calmed… but most of all happy. We embraced… something we, ourselves had waited for so long. My heart felt as if, nothing could kill me, I was invincible, and I was with the woman I love so much. Knowing her for years, being with her was so comfortable… we kissed and smiled… smiled we did. Several months passed…..

Those were the days I enjoyed my love, and still do. I was in love with her… and yet things turned for the worse. She told me, school is first, I sighed and fought on, but… to no avail. But until this day I wait for her, that perhaps, maybe one day, our love can be reunited, and this heat and passion can once again be given to that special one, that special one I love so much. Even in doubt, and things were not meant to be… I could… if I could… embrace her once more in my arms, and say, the words that run through my soul, of… I love you… I love you Mayzin… then… I could live at peace, but until then, this world of mine, goes on, but my heart…. my heart stays…. stays with my love.. Mayzin Myint.”

Edition 16: Trinity Blood

At the bottom of the food chain are producers, prime example plants, which obtain energy from the sun via photosynthesis. A step above them are herbivores like cows and above them are carnivores such as humans. Vampires exist by sucking the blood from human beings. It is logical then for there to be something that thrives off the blood of vampires. Those mythical creatures are called Crusniks.

Abel Nightroad, codename Crusnik 02, was once an Air and Space Force Commander for the United Nations. He is currently employed as a priest of the Vatican in the Special Operations Department of the Division of State Ecclesiastical Affairs (AX). Their responsibility is foreign policy and the maintenance of the overall stability of sovereign states. Helping him in his duties are: Sister Esther, a red-haired nun from St. Matthias Church; Father Tres, a cyborg whose alias is the Gunslinger; Father Leon, an ex-convict; Father Hugue, aka the Sword Dancer; and Lady Catherina, head of AX and Duchess of Milan. A secret society called Rosenkreuz Orden is threatening the world order and it is up to Abel and his allies to stop them.

Thoughts:

Hina:
Trinity Blood is set in a not so distant future where Terrans and Vampires coexist. Abel Nightroad is a priest with a gun. Well, one of the nuns Sister Esther is armed with a gun too. Like Crono from Chrno Crusade, circumstances resulted in the death of a loved one. Abel is able to control the extent of his Crusnik powers by the activation of nanomachines within his body. Both Crono and Able have a passive personality, but when they transform they don’t hold back. The lyrics for the Ending theme song ‘Broken Wings’ by Tomoko Tane are in English. The melody is soft and soothing with the piano accompaniment.

Kefkasou:
Trinity Blood resembles somewhat of a Vampire Hunter D, Hellsing, or Blood type of anime with all the elements to enable the success of reaching an audience of great variety. Where the questions between the struggle for survival be it vampire or human, is where other Anime leave out and a new one begin. Could questions really be solved or will new problems show its face? As I am one eager to watch this, I am also eager to find out what answers Trinity Blood will provide aside from the general cliches seen in others. As far as the characters and designs are, they look richly animated with all it’s orginalites attached (as I am a fan of this style of animation). How good this Anime really is is to be seen. Until then, be on the lookout for Trinity Blood.

Piro^kun:

Another delicious release from the masters at Gonzo, Trinity Blood looks to be more than just your average vampire/gothic anime. With an art style similar to the recent Castlevania games, this quite a stylish series (but that is to be expected from Gonzo). The story looks to be rather wide in scope as well. It involves everything from a simple flight attendant to the Vatican, with quite a few religious references. It does seem that the main character (Abel Nightroad, a peniless priest) is a bit too much like Vash the Stampede (of Trigun fame) for me. Hopefully he becomes a bit more rounded as the series progresses. Overall though, Trinity Blood is sure to be a hit with anyone who is a fan of Hellsing, Trigun, or the Blade movies.

Dark Wind:
Gonzo is back at it again, sweet CG animation and all. This time it’s a vampire anime, not an entirely new genre for Gonzo, which produced the Hellsing anime as well. With that under their belt, they should be able to get the basics right. And from what I see and hear, they seemed to have done at least that much. The character designs look slick, and the animation and CG look great and seem to mix wonderfully (as is par for the course with Gonzo). The story seems to take a page out of Vampire Hunter D, with the backstory consisting of an “armageddon” that occured and then afterwards vampires and other monsters came into being as a result, and now the humans fight them off and have become organized about it, with the creation of “Vaticans” who employ priests to travel the world and defeat these vampires and other horrible beasts as they go along. The main character seems cool-looking enough, stupid name notwithstanding (Peter Abel Nightroad, wtf?). So long as the music is solid, the action badass, and the animation and character designs not too extravagant (i.e. ridiculous looking), then I think this will be one to watch. I know I will be buying the DVD’s from FUNi as they come out. With this, the Hellsing Ultimate OVA, and the Blood+ TV series coming to the US this year, 2006 is the year to be a vampire anime fan.

Alpha:
Trinity Blood is another one of Gonzo Digimation’s many wonderful works. Its story revolves around vampires and humans. Although we have seen that plot used over and over again, the separation from all the other titles begin at how it blends a loose atmosphere at certain periods of the show and then gets serious when the flow of Trinity Blood deems it. I am a sucker for cute female characters, and Esther is forcing me to jot this title on my planner. It certainly is a good looking show, as expected from Gonzo, but what I am looking forward to more is how it will isolate itself from a show like Chrono Crusade, which has a similar theme; a nun and a vampire (or a being other than human). FUNimation really made a quick push to acquire this title. I was surprised that they had completed the deal so fast. I certainly have no problem with FUNimation licensing Trinity Blood. I wonder if it would be in releases like Samurai 7 where there is a collector’s edition and a regular edition. It would certainly be cool to see some sort of collector’s item included with the DVDs. In any case, Trinity Blood has the makings of a bad ass title, and there is not a doubt in my mind that it will appeal to a good number of fans.

The RX-78NT1 is the fourth Gundam unit created by the Federation Forces during the One Year War. Redesigned for use by ace pilot Amuro Ray, whose success in battle was seen as evidence of his Newtype powers, this Gundam was given the designation “NT1.” Unlike Zeon’s Newtype weapons, the Gundam NT1 doesn’t have a psycommu interface; instead, its designers concentrated on making it highly responsive and maneuverable. Its special features include magnet-coated joints for increased responsiveness, a new type of panoramic cockpit display, and pop-up gatling guns in its forearms. The Gundam NT1 can also be fitted with optional Chobham armor for extra protection, increasing its overall weight to a massive 95 tons.

February 04, 2006:

Built out of box and painted. One thing I like about Master Grade models is, they don’t need puttying. I had this model for along time, this was actually my second Master Grade model. If you like to build models without painting them, then a Master grade is a good choice for you. I have no problems with this model except for decided to weather have the armor on it or not.

- Parts ready for spray paint.

- Working on more then one model at a time.

- Drying the parts.

- When spraying parts flat on the sheet, sometimes you will miss some of the parts on the model. To get those complex parts, filled in, you would need to spray it separately.

- What I did here was put a ball of clay on the inside and stick a rod through it. Then spray the angles that I missed.

- Slowly putting the parts back together.

- The Internal parts on the legs, this kind of detail was a big deal back then.

- This marking here says “left” and make sure you put this on the left side of the model.

-   This is right.

- The shoulder is made of a special rubber joint.

Cherry Blossoms (sakura)

Cherry Blossoms (sakura)

Cherry blossoms are used extensively in the anime world. These trees are classified under the family Rosaceae and grow wildly in the mountainous regions of Japan. These species of cherry trees are appreciated more for the beauty of their blossoms rather than other cherry blossoms used for their fruit. The wood can be used to make furniture and carvings. The form and color of the blossoms have long symbolized traditional values of Japanese purity and simplicity. Because it flowers briefly then scatters, they have also come to symbolize the ephemeral nature of beauty.

Historically in the Helian period, 794-1185 AD, cherry blossom flower viewing parties (hanami) were popular among the aristocracy and by the Edo period, early 17th century, the custom spread to the common people. Today, picnicking and drinking with friends and family beneath the flowering cherry blossoms remains a popular rite of springtime in Japan.

Sakura is the most common Japanese female character’s name. The most beloved is the Sakura from Card Captor Sakura/Tsubasa Chronicles. With the growing popularity of Naruto in the United States, the second Sakura to come to mind is pink-haired and has a complex over Sasuke. She becomes much stronger and useful post-time jump. There’s also the sword wielding Sakura from Sakura Wars (Sakura Taisen), the short and blond Sakura from Da Capo, the purple haired Sakura from Fate/Stay Night, and even Sakura from Street Fighter Alpha.

Alpha:
Tenchi GXP is strictly for fans who have questioned, ‘What has happened to the Tenchi series?’ Shin Tenchi (Tenchi in Tokyo) was not a success and the series has deteriorated over time since the original Tenchi Muyo OAV. Tenchi Muyo was entertaining and it attracted as much fans as it did as a result. There are Tenchi zealots… but then again, there are always zealots for everything heh. So let us go to my views on this new installment of Tenchi Muyo, Tenchi GXP.

First of all, Tenchi Masaki is no longer the main character. Second of all, if you are looking forward to watch all the wackiness of Ryoko, Ayeka and crew, pass on, as they only make guest appearances here and there. And third of all, GXP could be considered if not a side story of Tenchi Muyo. The thing that catches my eyes of course is the animation quality, character etc. All the visuals, duh! I did say eyes hehe. But seriously, I believe GXP has a lot of potentials to be a great series in the states. Why? Well, considering the Tenchi fan base we have in the United States and the amount of anticipation this series has given me thus far.

I believe most fans have already questioned why, FUNimation picked up this title as to why Pioneer Animation did not pick this title up seeing that they have been releasing the Tenchi saga in the states. To tell you the truth, I would prefer Pioneer Animation over FUNimation in releasing Tenchi GXP. If you are wondering why I prefer Pioneer Animation… well only because I own more of their products than FUNimation :). FUNimation is not bad, do not get me wrong, I am sure Kiddy Grade will be a heck of a title and I sure as hell will be looking forward to that too!

Dark Wind:
Tenchi Muyo! GXP is the latest anime series in the Tenchi universe. It’s not the coming 3rd OVA though, Tenchi GXP is simply a side story involving characters related to the main Tenchi cast. If you want to see characters like Ryoko, Ayeka, and Tenchi, don’t count on it, as they only make cameo appearances here. I’ve read that this show isn’t even able to keep the humor of the excellent Tenchi Muyo! and Tenchi Universe anime series, and is much like the poor Tenchi in Tokyo.

What I’ve heard of so far disappoints me, and even more disappointing is that FUNimation picked up the license for US release. While they are a great company, I would have liked Pioneer, who has released everything else Tenchi so far in the US, and know how to treat such a great license. I’ll be waiting for this on TV, probably Cartoon Network, but I’m not in anticipation. I’ll hold off on getting excited about Tenchi until the Tenchi 3rd OVA comes out in September in Japan.

Piro^kun:

Seina Yamada has the worst luck in the galaxy. He brings it upon himself, family and friends anywhere he goes. But he must have something good going for him. Thinking Seina to be like the next Tenchi Muyo (because he attends the same school), Kaunaq of the Galaxy Police pays an visit to Seina and asks, “Wanna join us?”.

Is it destiny or just mistaken identity? If all goes well for Seina he just may end up being the most eligible bachelor in the galaxy. I really like the look of this. It reminds me more of the original Tenchi OVA, and helps to get rid of the nasty aftertaste of Tenchi in Tokyo. Maybe, I’m biased by my love for the Tenchi series as a whole, but I’m really looking forward to this!

Stikz:
I’m the biggest fan of the Tenchi Muyo OAV series. But, I’ve only been a partial fan of the spin-offs. This one doesn’t even have anyone from the core cast of the original. But after reading about GXP and watching the trailer. My opinion is changing on this one and my thumbs are starting to turn up. I will check this one out, if you’re a Tenchi fan then I believe you should too.

Oh, and I shouldn’t even have to tell you to pick up Tenchi Muyo OAV 3 later this year.

Thoughts:

Stikz: You know I’m a sucker for Gonzo releases and I’m also a sucker for samurai titles. Samurai 7 has both of those in check, so off we go with my initial impressions. So I go to the site and check out the trailer. What’s this I see? an onslaught of mechs and explosions? Exactly…not what I was expecting. None the less it was beautiful and after seeing countless samurai shows focusing on the Edo period and those fundamentals I guess the surprise of this vision was perplexing but also interesting.

One of the areas I focus on is the character design. Every character is drawn with just that, character. Before they even speak they have tons of personality. As the trailer seems to focus on more traditional settings, I start to get a feel for it. The action looks great and wonderfully animated. The music heard so far is pretty run of the mill. It’s not bad, just something you’ve heard countless times in the genre. So even with the questionable choice to merge mechs and samurai together, I am very interested in seeing this. Just for the simple fact that the characters look interesting. FUNimation picked up the license for an U.S. release. They really are shaping up to be a company to reckon with with their recent releases.

hinatasou:
In honor of the 50th anniversary (last year, 2004) of Akira Kurosawa’s masterpiece Shichinin no Samurai (Seven Samurai, 1954), Gonzo has produced the 26 episode anime series Samurai 7. The original film, starring Toshiro Mifune, is among the top ten best Japanese films of all time. It was a breakthrough in Japanese cinematography with its magnificent large-scale battle scenes. Samurai 7 recreates Kurosawa’s jidaigeki epic (dating to Edo period: 1600-1868) of an embattled farm village that hires a disparate group of seven unemployed samurai to protect it from bandits, who have taken both their rice and their wives. The anime sets in a future feudal period where the armaments of warfare are giant mechanical machines, laser cannons and rifles, machine guns, and of course the weapon of choice - swords. Scenery varies from floating battleships, elaborate palaces and daimyos (castles), and the rural fields of the countryside, to the scorching desert, underwater caves and pathways, and the mercantile slums of the city. Knowing Gonzo (the makers of Last Exile), expect to see spectacular 3D animation. Like the original movie, I forewarn you that main characters die. The opening theme by Nanase Aikawa is called Unlimited; a fitting title for the anime has limitless possibilities. The ending theme entitled Fuhen is oriental.

Piro^kun:

Now that Chrno Crusade has ended, here comes another sweet looking anime from Gonzo. Samurai 7 is based on Akira Kurosawa’s most fantastic movie, The Seven Samurai.

Far distant future, on a planet that might have been called ‘earth’, there was a war between samurai who mechanized their bodies. After the long war, people have returned a modest peace.

Now people in Kanna Village are suffering from the Nobuseri, who are the ruined samurai. After the war ended, they lost their purpose for fighting, and they’ve been robbing the village of their crops and women. Because they don’t have any way to fight against them, the villagers have to obey Nobureri’s order.

One year, before harvest season, Gisaku, the head of the village, proposes that they will hire samurai to protect them from Nobuseri.
Riki, who is a young boy full of energy, along with Kirara and Komachi, twin priestesses, go to a town to look for samurai to help them.

For me, just for being made by Gonzo I expect it be at least good and the story sounds like an interesting interpretation of the original story. I for one am going to check it out as soon as possible.

Dark Wind:
To be honest, I don’t know much about Samurai 7. From what I’ve read and from trailers I’ve seen, it looks awesome. It is animated by GONZO, so that’s to be expected. Apparently, they dropped an enormous amount of money into the project, and it certainly shows. The music also sounds pretty good, and if it stays consistent in the actual show than I think I will be buying the soundtrack. I’m really just hoping to be pleasantly surprised by this one as it’s released. It’s loosely based on Akira Kurosawa’s classic film, Seven Samurai. I say “loosely” because there are mechs and flying ships and guns in Samurai 7, which were not there in Seven Samurai. It sounds like an intriguing twist to me, and so long as the story is well-developed and the characters interesting, then I think this is one to watch out for.
